Sawano Torafuku

Overview

Sawano Torafuku is the daughter of Kimiko Torafuku, the heir to the Tigress Martial Art, and a student of the School of Knowledge for Gifted Children. She enters the Battle of the Kings immediately, wearing no armour and fighting with the athletic confidence expected of her house. Her childhood friend Yuki Hayami has never defeated her in sparring.

Sawano defeats Sophia Dion and then faces Yuki in the semi-final, earning the place opposite Ryuji in the final. While other students are frightened by Ryuji’s victory over Riki, Sawano is excited by the strength she has witnessed. Ryuji wins their final and becomes King; Sawano accepts Queen. In His Return, she stands beside Yuki against Shun and fights to stop Ryuji’s removal, reaching for him as the Tower’s shadows take him away.

Connections

Sawano is Kimiko’s daughter, Yuki’s oldest rival and friend, and Ryuji’s most determined ally during his removal. Her relationship with Ryuji begins in combat but becomes central to the school’s response to Shun.

The journey through Eterna

Sawano refuses to accept Ryuji's removal as final. She travels with Yuki Hayami, Kimiko Torafuku, and Reiko Hayami from Chiseido into the Dark Forest of Eterna. The group crosses goblin territory rather than waiting for political permission. Sawano kills the hobgoblin king after fighting through its camp, showing that the school tournament did not exaggerate her strength.

At the summit, the Tower's barriers make a direct entrance impossible. Reiko constructs an ice cannon, Kimiko supplies the force, and Sawano allows herself to be fired toward the upper floors. The barrier admits her because its master has already weakened it. She crashes through the balcony doors and reaches Ryuji, but initially recoils from the change in him. Recognising what that reaction has done, she returns to apologise and hold him.
