Akiyama Magnus

Overview

Akiyama Magnus is a demon commander introduced at the very end of Chapter 20, styled in a single line as **Commander of the Royal Knights, the Golden Prince of all demons, and Heir to the Demon throne**. The narration states that his name alone demanded that all who heard it kneel in respect, which establishes his standing before he has spoken a word.

He is the first member of the Horned Ones to be named in the published story.

Appearance

His hair is a shock of brilliant golden-blonde, set against deep crimson eyes. Above both sit a pair of great, sweeping ram-like horns, described as the unmistakable signature of the ancient warrior race known as the Horned Ones.

His dress is recorded in unusual detail for a first appearance, and is military rather than courtly. He wears a midnight-black military tunic whose edges are lined with crimson damask panels embroidered with intricate gold filigree, described as shimmering like cooling embers. Heavy gold epaulettes weigh his shoulders, their thick fringe swaying with each step. Across his chest, a series of golden aiguillettes is draped from a ruby-encrusted brooch at his high collar — a detail the narration reads as marking him not merely as a noble but as a man of high command.

Arrival through the portal

Chapter 20 shows him only in transit, and only through Zero's eyes. Zero observes him from an underground chamber below the Tower, through a large swirling emerald portal wide and tall enough to admit ten large men at once.

On the far side of that portal is a vast stone hall receding into the distance, lit only by the portal's glow and by slivers of sunshine spilling through ornate doors at its far end. Akiyama walks that hall at the head of fifteen armoured men, moving with what the narration calls severe, martial elegance, each step heavy with purpose while the rhythmic sound of armour and chains carries down the stone.

Zero reports this to Shun Sato telepathically, in the middle of the royal ball, with four words: “The Cavalry has arrived.” Shun had told Zero earlier that same chapter that they would come for him. The chapter ends as Akiyama leads his men toward the green light; the arrival itself is not shown.

Name, title and the throne

His surname is the name of the reigning Demon King, Magnus, and Chapter 20 calls him Heir to the Demon throne. The published story has not yet stated the relationship between the two men, and this article does not supply one. What Chapter 20 establishes is the standing, not its origin: he holds the succession, commands the Royal Knights, and is called the Golden Prince of all demons.

At the portal

Chapter 21 brings Akiyama through the portal and gives him his first lines. He stands slightly taller than Shun Sato, and meets him with a glare that shows frustration and a deep-seated sadness. He greets Shun as someone he knows — “It's been a while, Shun” — and tells him that the nobles feared retaliation and so sent someone they knew Shun would never harm.

His composure does not last. When Shun mocks the nobles, the facade of the calm commander shatters, and Akiyama demands to know what Shun was thinking. Shun refuses to explain himself to anyone but Magnus and offers his wrists; Akiyama, seeing that there is no room for argument, orders him bound.

The guard

When one of his knights whispers an insult at the bound prisoner, Akiyama rounds on him with a bloodlust so heavy it seems to rip the air from the man's lungs, and knocks him unconscious with a single right hook that drives his head into the stone floor. He then addresses his men:

“You will show your respect! To the former Royal Knight of the Demon King! The Hero of the Demon War! And the Lord of the Tower!” He tells them that Shun may be a prisoner, but that he will not allow worthless weaklings and pathetic whelps to disrespect the legacy of his achievements, and orders two of them to carry the fallen guard back to be dealt with later.

Old friend, old commander

The narration calls Shun Akiyama's old friend and old ally, and calls Akiyama Shun's old commander. When Roku emerges from Shun's shadow, Akiyama draws his weapon and orders Shun not to make things worse for himself, his voice cracking under the strain. He then asks: “Who the hell are all these people, Shun?! What the hell have you become?!”

Shun's answer — that he has become the monster they all judged him to be — ends the confrontation. Akiyama sighs, the fire leaving his gaze, calmed by what the narration calls a tragic history he was all too familiar with. He sheathes his sword, walks back through the portal ahead of his men, and gives the order to escort the fallen lord to the dungeons, grief eating at his heart. He leads the column through the Frontier himself.

Undisclosed details

The published story has still not stated Akiyama's relationship to the reigning Demon King beyond the shared name and his title as heir, nor the history behind his friendship with Shun and the time he commanded him. Both remain undisclosed at this boundary.
