Shun Sato
Shun Sato is the Lord of the Tower, known to the public as the Devil of the Tower and remembered as the third hero of the Demon War. Accounts of him divide sharply: some describe a kind, charismatic young man; others a devilishly cunning monster. He is the father of Ryuji Sato and Mimi Sato, served at the Tower by Zero.
Tall and elegant, appearing in his mid-thirties, with long black hair tipped crimson and a sharp black-and-red suit. In his true form he bears dark grey horns, crimson eyes, and a tail ending in a heart-shaped tip. He is one of very few demons who can conceal his form entirely — a special case he does not explain.

- Before the WarThe Gate AppearsThe Gate Appears marks the arrival of demonkind on the human side of Kaladria and the beginning of the chain of events that reshaped every kingdom on the continent. The interdimensional Gate manifested in the Eterna Mountains, then inside the borders of the Kingdom of Lindsey. Demons emerged from it, and the human kingdoms, which had spent decades fighting one another for supremacy, formed an alliance against the new enemy.
- The WarThe Demon WarThe Demon War was the five-year conflict that followed the appearance of the Gate in the Eterna Mountains. Demons emerging from the portal triggered a worldwide war, while the human kingdoms put aside their existing conflicts to fight as an alliance. Volume I records brutal bloodshed and massive losses on both sides, rather than a decisive victory by either power.
- The WarThe Peace Treaty of HopeThe Peace Treaty of Hope is the settlement that ended the five-year Demon War. Negotiations followed the work of three heroes—Reiko Hayami, Kimiko Torafuku, and the demon hero later known as Shun Sato—and created the political order governing the Gate and the Tower.
- After the TreatyThe Establishment of the TowerThe Establishment of the Tower followed the Peace Treaty of Hope and turned its settlement into a permanent institution. The treaty required a Tower to be built in the Eterna Mountains, where it would guard the Gate, and appointed the demon hero who had helped end the Demon War as its guardian. The resulting institution, the Tower, was designed to prevent the newly ended war from beginning again at the crossing.
- Two years after the TowerThe First TransgressionThe First Transgression occurred two years after the Establishment of the Tower. It began when Victor the Third, king of the Kingdom of Lindsey, rejected the Peace Treaty of Hope and attempted to retake the lands Lindsey had lost after the Demon War. His campaign was an attempt to undo the settlement that had made the Eterna Mountains demon territory and placed them under the Tower’s protection.
- Twenty years after the TowerThe Hikari Civil WarThe Hikari Civil War began twenty years after the Establishment of the Tower, following the death of Yoshino Hikari, the aging warrior-king of the Kingdom of Hikari. His two children contested the crown: his eldest child and rightful heir, Satomi Hikari, and her younger brother, Arata Hikari, who seized it.

- Present DayThe Battle of the KingsThe Battle of the Kings is the annual second-year tournament at the School of Knowledge for Gifted Children. It uses one-on-one matches to determine the strongest eligible student and to test how the winners handle authority. The champion receives the title of King for the following year; the next two students receive the lesser titles of Queen and Jack. The authority is not formally enforced, but it extends over lower-ranking students and some staff, and it ends as the titleholder approaches graduation.
- Present DayHis ReturnHis Return is the confrontation at the School of Knowledge for Gifted Children in which Shun Sato, the Lord of the Tower, publicly comes for his son Ryuji Sato. It occurs a few months after the Battle of the Kings, during a parents’ event, and exposes the King’s parentage to the students and families gathered at the school.
