Satomi's request
Before leaving the Tower, Satomi asks Shun to prevent Yumi from following her into the Hikari civil war. Satomi has seen the love developing between them and believes the Tower can give Yumi a life beyond unending service and battle. Shun agrees.
Secret departure
Satomi and Kenji leave at night while Yumi sleeps. Mimi helps preserve the deception, and Shun claims the queen is scouting when Yumi asks at breakfast. Yumi discovers Satomi's rooms untouched and empty, then confronts Shun at the gate.
Broken protection
Shun says Satomi left Yumi and made him promise to hold her back. Yumi rejects protection that denies her agency, declaring that her vow to her queen and homeland supersedes his command. Shun restrains her, but releases her when he can no longer endure her anguish. The promise fails because keeping it would require destroying the freedom it was meant to protect.
