Overview
The Demon War was the five-year conflict that followed the appearance of the Gate in the Eterna Mountains. Demons emerging from the portal triggered a worldwide war, while the human kingdoms put aside their existing conflicts to fight as an alliance. Volume I records brutal bloodshed and massive losses on both sides, rather than a decisive victory by either power.
End of the war
The conflict ended when three heroes—two humans and one demon—worked to bring about peace. Reiko Hayami, Kimiko Torafuku, and the demon hero later known as Shun Sato are identified in the Volume I record as the three heroes. Their intervention opened negotiations and produced the Peace Treaty of Hope.
Political legacy
The war transformed the contested Gate into a treaty boundary. The treaty assigned the Eterna range to demon territory on the human side, created a guarded Tower, and imposed neutrality on its demon guardian. The settlement ended the war but did not remove the political pressure created by it: the human kingdoms remained fragile enough that interference by the Lord of the Tower could endanger the peace.
Magnus, the Demon King, remains a central figure in the demon side of this history. In Volume I, the consequences for the Tower Lord’s later intervention in the Hikari conflict are said to have been imposed by Magnus, underscoring that the peace did not make the Tower independent of demon authority.
