Kimiko Torafuku

Overview

Kimiko Torafuku is the Duchess of Chiseido, a hero of the Demon War, and the mother of Sawano Torafuku. She is associated with House Torafuku’s martial tradition and is described as an imposing battlemage in red silk robes, with the same orange hair as her daughter. The school’s tournament treats Sawano’s heritage as significant because Kimiko remains an undefeated hero.

Kimiko arrives during the schoolyard crisis in His Return, where she watches the conflict surrounding Ryuji. When the adults enter the arena, she does not remain a spectator: she destroys Sawano’s puppet with a descending attack. Her appearance also reunites her with fellow hero Reiko Hayami and brings her into direct view of Shun Sato, the third of the war’s heroes.

Connections

Kimiko’s most immediate connection is to Sawano, whose determination to fight Ryuji reflects her house’s values. She also belongs to the living legacy of the Demon War, alongside Reiko and Shun.

Mother and fighter in the rescue

Kimiko accompanies her daughter into Eterna as both protector and disciplinarian. Her care is maternal without becoming indulgent: she watches the younger fighters closely, corrects them when necessary, and uses the steel claws of House Torafuku against the goblin pack. The expedition shows the experienced combatant beneath her public title.

At the Tower, Kimiko participates in the improvised breach rather than ordering Sawano to retreat. Reiko shapes an enormous ice cannon and Kimiko strikes it with enough force to launch Sawano toward the balcony. The act is an expression of trust in her daughter's choice as well as her strength.
