Terms
Under the treaty, the Eterna Mountains became demon territory on the human side of the Gate. A Tower was to be raised within the range to protect the portal. Its guardian was to prevent anyone from passing without permission and remain completely neutral in human politics. The neutrality requirement was expressly intended to avoid shattering the fragile political condition of the human kingdoms.
Guardian and enforcement
The demon hero who helped end the war became the guardian, a role later associated with The Tower and its Lord. He was bound to defend the Gate, but the treaty also constrained him: any political interference carried consequences. This tension defines the later history of the Tower. The guardian’s response to Victor the Third during the First Transgression defended the treaty’s territory; his later involvement in Hikari was treated as a more direct violation.
Historical importance
The treaty did not erase distrust between humans and demons. It established a guarded border, a neutral office, and a political test that later rulers attempted to exploit or challenge. Every later transgression is therefore also a dispute about how far the Tower’s guardian may act while remaining bound by this peace.
