Capital of Chiseido

Kenmeikyo is the capital of Chiseido, a city presented in Volume I as a place of wealth, ordinary magic, and courtly power. Its busy square is enclosed by wooden and stone buildings; vendors offer jewellery and sweets while street performers use simple spells to draw an audience. Towering stone walls make the city’s protection visible at every turn.

Castle and horizon

The king’s castle occupies high ground over the city, built by Chiseido’s finest masons to endure for a thousand years. From its balcony, Sawano Torafuku brings Ryuji Sato to look over the streets, walls, and the sunset. Beyond the outskirts, the Eterna Mountains rise, with the Tower distinct on the highest peak. The view binds the capital’s peace to the troubled history at the western frontier.

School city

Kenmeikyo also contains the School of Knowledge for Gifted Children, where Ryuji, Sawano, and Yuki Hayami spend Volume I. The city offers their first shared space away from the academy during the holiday, but it cannot remove the social hierarchies or political history that enter the school with its noble students.

Distance from the Eterna frontier

The route from Kenmeikyo to the Dark Forest takes roughly three days. That distance separates the school's protected routines from the monster territory and treaty boundary beyond the capital. Sawano and Yuki's decision to pursue Ryuji therefore becomes a sustained expedition, not a short visit outside the city.
