Ducal house and martial tradition

House Torafuku is a ducal house of Chiseido and keeper of the Tigress Martial Art. The discipline joins martial arts and fire magic with steel claws, and its practitioners are credited with exceptional speed and resilience. In Volume I, the style is a family inheritance and a public source of status, carried visibly by the house’s distinctive orange-haired women.

Kimiko and Sawano

Kimiko Torafuku is the formidable mother of Sawano Torafuku. Sawano enters the Battle of the Kings with a willingness to meet Ryuji directly in combat, and their final makes her Queen when Ryuji becomes King. Her connection to the family is also personal: the Chiseido civil war killed her birth parents before she became part of the Torafuku household.

House custom

By the family’s custom, a Torafuku woman may marry only a man who defeats her in honourable combat. The rule is described as a way to preserve strength. It explains why House Torafuku’s martial practice is not separated from its family politics: combat determines not only reputation but the terms on which a woman’s future may be negotiated.

The rescue through Eterna

Kimiko and Sawano carry the house's martial discipline into the Dark Forest. Both fight with steel claws, and Sawano kills the hobgoblin king before volunteering to be launched through the Tower's defence. The expedition makes Torafuku strength an expression of family loyalty rather than a school title alone.
