House Dion is a prominent noble family of Helio, a status built on unmatched mercantile strength. It is headed by Alexander Dion, Marquess of Helio. The house’s wealth and rank travel with its daughter into the School, where the distance between Helio and Chiseido does not reduce the authority a noble name can claim.

Sophia at the School

Sophia Dion introduces herself to Ryuji with the careful courtesy expected of a student who believes he may be a foreign prince. Once she learns he is a commoner, that courtesy becomes a demand that he accept lifelong service to her in return for protection. Her response is an immediate demonstration of how House Dion’s inherited standing is understood within the academy.

Meaning in Volume I

Ryuji’s refusal does not become merely a quarrel with Sophia. It exposes the assumption that noble families can claim a person’s future by rank, an assumption also visible in the school’s wider treatment of commoners. House Dion’s role in the Volume I network is consequently political and social: its name defines the power Sophia expects to possess, and the limit Ryuji refuses to accept.
