Riki Shibatani

Overview

Riki Shibatani is the son of Hinoki Shibatani, Earl of Chiseido, a patron of the School of Knowledge for Gifted Children. He uses his rank and fire magic to command a circle of noble students and treats Ryuji’s refusal to submit as a personal challenge. His hostility makes him one of the earliest defenders of the school’s existing hierarchy.

In the Battle of the Kings, Riki arranges for Nori Morita to yield so that he can advance without fighting. He then meets Ryuji in the semi-final. Riki escalates with fire, but Ryuji’s shadows outlast his attacks and the fight ends with Riki defeated and traumatised. His later involvement in the beating of Michika Midori leads to the schoolyard confrontation that precedes His Return.

Connections

Riki is allied with Sophia Dion and bound to Nori by the latter’s protective loyalty. His conflict with Ryuji becomes the clearest test of whether the new King’s declaration against noble immunity has any force.
