The Guild Master

Overview

The Guild Master leads the Adventurers’ Guild and is an important early contact in Ryuji’s life before school. He knows Ryuji as “Cub,” an affectionate but admonishing name that he uses while challenging the boy’s arrogance. When Ryuji returns from killing hobgoblins in the Dark Forest of Eterna, he accepts the commander’s head as proof of the completed quest and prepares to oversee Ryuji’s promotion test.

Instead, he introduces Ryuji to Elian, who has arrived as his honoured guest. The Guild Master gives Elian enough of Ryuji’s history to prompt the headmaster’s interest, then judges the test in which Elian defeats Ryuji. Afterward, he makes certain that Ryuji understands Elian’s invitation to the school.

Connections

The Guild Master joins Ryuji’s adventuring past to Elian’s school recruitment. His trust in Ryuji’s ability, paired with his refusal to indulge Ryuji’s ego, makes him a formative mentor figure in Volume I.
