Taichi Suzuki

Overview

Taichi Suzuki is a commoner student at the School of Knowledge for Gifted Children and the son of a guard in the city watch. His place in the Battle of the Kings matters because he and Ryuji are the only opening match framed as two students without the shield of a noble name. Taichi asks for an honourable fight, bringing a spear that is plainly inferior to the weapons and inheritances on display elsewhere in the tournament.

Ryuji breaks Taichi’s spear underfoot and defeats him in the contest’s first battle. Taichi’s loss ends his tournament run, and the volume records no later independent role. The abruptness of the match nevertheless establishes the frightening standard Ryuji brings to the school.

Connections

Taichi’s only direct Volume I rival is Ryuji; Professor Tomo announces the match and Elian observes it. As a fellow commoner, he also illustrates the precarious position Ryuji is attempting to change after becoming King.
