The Raijin Family

Martial lineage

The Raijin Family is a Hikari martial house associated with paired katana and wakizashi, disciplined coordination, lightning, and movement so fast it can distort an opponent's perception of time. Yumi Raijin carries that art as Satomi's Royal Knight.

Duty and choice

Yumi's training does not make her service automatic. During the Tower refuge, Shun challenges the idea that her family name should decide her life. Yumi answers that she chooses Satomi and chooses what her blades protect. Chapter 17 makes that agency central when she rejects Shun's attempt to keep her from following her queen.

Marked for destruction

Arata Hikari twice addresses the Raijin family as a strategic problem. Planning the battle from Goguma, he dismisses them as no threat if left alone and defers dealing with them until the war is over. Facing Yumi Raijin on the field, he states the intention plainly: her family is next on his list, and once he has erased them no one will remain alive to challenge his absolute rule.

The declaration establishes the house as the last power capable of opposing the usurper, and gives the Raijin an existential stake in the outcome of a succession war they had not formally joined.

Raijin swordsmanship demonstrated

The battle provides the clearest display of the family's discipline to date. Confronting more than a dozen assassins while physically spent, Yumi discharges crackling electricity across her skin and blade, then moves at a speed her opponents cannot perceive — vanishing from sight, closing distance like a bolt of thunder, and passing through a volley of thrown daggers as though time had slowed around her. The style's peerless speed is named directly as the reason the assassins are unable to respond.

Takane Raijin

The family's master of the Raijin style is named in Chapter 19 as Takane Raijin, mother of Yumi Raijin. She personally trained Arata Hikari, which is how the usurper came to fight with Raijin speed against Takane's own daughter at the Battle of a Thousand Shadows.
